Allt y Bela – Financial Times Weekend
When garden designer Arne Maynard and his partner William Collinson acquired 160 acres of additional land at their medieval Monmouthshire home, Allt y bela, they brought in a small herd of White Park cattle to help manage the land, which is also the biggest single block Site of Special Scientific Interest in Wales.
Widely considered to be the most ancient British breed, the White Park is prized for its hardy nature, excellent foraging abilities and gentle grazing; the cattle clears land in “a completely natural way” allowing native wildflowers to grow, and kickstarting a regenerative cycle.
